Probate is generally required in California when a person who has passed away owned property worth more than $150,000. However, if the property exceeds $150,000 you may not have to open a probate case depending on the type of title ownership.
If the property is worth less than $150,000 you may be able to use small estate legal procedures and avoid probate.
